Well over the past few weeks I have been busy working on new Illustrations and concept ideas, while doing so I have also been having a little fun with recreating the opening sequence of one of my favourite films “Star wars” A new hope. I just wanted to see if I could get a descent image that would stand up to Blu Ray quality and not look too shabby. I had these old Models in OBJ format which were modelled by someone else on the internet and were allowed to download and use (Blockade runner, Star Destroyer).
I decided to see if Smithmicro’s Poser could handle the size of the models and texture, render them adequately so they looked ok. It took Poser over 24 hours to render the Star Destroyer as I had the Pixel samples set to 30 to reduce the amount of shimmer in the animation as there is an incredible amount of detail in the model itself which when small on screen shimmers if you don’t compensate for it. The timing for the animation was done by memory until I realised I really need actual reference for the lasers and camera movement by which time the ships had been rendered out and I wasn’t going to do them again. So my version is slightly faster than the original. Once finished I will upload the final animated sequence to the my page.
